Frequently asked questions
General
What browsers does BuildQuant support?
BuildQuant works on current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. Chrome or Edge recommended for best experience.
Can I use BuildQuant on mobile or tablet?
The interface is optimized for desktop. It may work on tablets with limitations. No native mobile app is available.
Is my data secure?
Yes. BuildQuant uses encrypted HTTPS connections and each company's data is fully isolated (multi-tenant architecture).
Projects and estimates
How many projects can I create?
There is no platform limit on projects. The limit depends on your subscription plan.
Can I have multiple estimates per project?
Yes. A project can have multiple estimates to manage versions (Alternative A, Bid estimate, etc.).
What is a baseline and when should I use it?
A baseline is a frozen read-only copy of an estimate at a specific point in time. Use it to compare the current estimate against the bid version, maintain version history, or calculate cost variances.
Can I delete a project?
Yes, if you have administrator permissions. Deleting a project also deletes all its data (estimates, UPAs, schedule, etc.). This cannot be undone.
UPA and catalog
What is the difference between UPA and catalog?
- The Catalog is the library of individual resources (materials, labor, equipment) with their unit prices.
- A UPA is the recipe that combines catalog resources to calculate the price of a specific activity.
What happens if I change a material price in the catalog?
The change doesn't automatically affect existing estimates. To update, run Recalculate on estimates that use that material in their UPAs.
What is "override" mode?
When you manually change the price of a line item linked to a UPA, the system switches the mode to override. This preserves your modification during recalculations. To return to the UPA-calculated price, use Reset from UPA.
Import and export
What file formats does import accept?
Import accepts Excel files (.xlsx, .xls) in BuildQuant template format.
My import failed. What do I do?
- Verify you used the official template (download from the import dialog).
- Ensure column headers are not modified.
- Verify numeric fields contain numbers (not text).
- If the error persists, contact the administrator.
Schedule
Does BuildQuant generate Gantt charts automatically?
The Schedule module currently manages the activity list and dependencies. Gantt visualization is on the product roadmap.
Can I import a schedule from MS Project?
Direct .MPP import is not available. Export your MS Project schedule to Excel and then import to BuildQuant.
Cost control and EVM
What data does EVM require to work correctly?
- PV (Planned Value): Calculated from the schedule and estimate amounts.
- EV (Earned Value): Recorded from the Field module (line item progress).
- AC (Actual Cost): Fed from purchase orders and contracts.
Permissions and users
Who can create users?
Only users with the Administrator role can create, modify, or deactivate users.
A user cannot see a module. Why?
Their role likely does not have access to that module. The administrator can verify and adjust role permissions in Administration → Permissions.
Support
How do I contact technical support?
Send an email to support@buildquant.io or use the in-app support chat (chat icon in the bottom-right corner).
Where do I report a bug?
Contact support with a description of the error, a screenshot, and the steps to reproduce it.
